RITES Tutoring & Coronavirus Protocol
Due to an abundance of caution, and following the governor’s guidelines, we have decided to close the RITES Learning Center in Pawtucket until further notice. In addition, local libraries have been closed, and this is where a great many of you have met for your tutoring sessions. As a result, we have also suspended in-person tutoring sessions for the time being. Understandably, this has caused a considerable change in how we do things, but we have been working throughout to provide solutions.
We, the RITES staff, are here for you. We CAN AND WILL work together to continue to support your child and you with our tutoring services. It may look and feel different, but you can still count on our expert, multisensory instruction.
How Will This Work?
Ironically, teaching “virtually” is the opposite of how we approach our effective, multisensory instruction. But, just because we can’t be in the same room with our students as they work with manipulatives to build their understanding doesn’t mean your child will stop benefitting from our help. Creativity is a hallmark of the RITES approach, and our fantastic tutors are getting more creative than ever!
We’ve already “met” online, shared our ideas and resources with each other, and we are ready to get back to work with your student. We will be using Zoom and other online meeting and sharing tools to work with your kids. We’ll have a variety of different components, which we will use with your child, depending on the type of tutoring you receive. Rest assured, your RITES tutor will work with you to customize materials to suit your in-home capabilities.
We are booking “virtual” tutoring through LearnSpeed the way we’ve done for in-person tutoring. You will receive email or text reminders of your session as usual. Keep in mind, though, that every student will be newly booked for a session this way; so, if you already had a standing day and time with your RITES tutor, that time and day may change. Your RITES teacher will be in touch with you to set up your sessions. You can also reach out to your RITES teacher if you are ready to start.
FREE Tutoring for a Limited Time – For CURRENT FAMILIES ONLY
We know the current situation is a strain, both emotionally and financially, on all families. We want to help alleviate some of this stress. From now until April 30th, RITES will offer all tutoring sessions FREE OF CHARGE to families who already receive tutoring from us. We will stay in touch along the way with regular updates, letting you know how things will work after April 30th.
How We Can Help
We know it has been stressful with the monumental shift to online instruction for school as well. We wanted to be sure you have had a chance to figure out how that will work in your household and put in place the things you need to support your child before we add our tutoring component to your day. We can help you with this process. You can consult your RITES teacher and get assistance with:
- Organizing your child’s workspace and materials
- Prioritizing assignments and time spent on each
- Movement breaks and other ideas to keep your children focused
- Supplemental work or instruction to enhance understanding of school assignments
- Other resources to reinforce lessons or keep kids engaged while still learning
- And, of course, ongoing tutoring focused on existing subject areas
We also want you to know we are happy to shift our tutoring focus to homework support. If you and your child are overwhelmed by the move of school online and the amount of homework associated with it, or if you simply prefer to use our time together this way, we are ready, willing and able to provide homework guidance, supervision, instruction, and support. We can free you up to think about other things and provide the break you may need.
