Are these familiar? Is your child struggling or diagnosed with dyslexia? RITES can help. We’re literacy specialists who use a multisensory approach and tailor each lesson to your student’s needs for lifelong success.
RITES specializes in 1-to-1 Orton-Gillingham and Wilson Tutoring. RITES offers personalized Orton-Gillingham tutoring during the school year and in summer for all ages, K through 12 and adult.
In addition, we offer small group classes in the summer for students in grades 2-6. Our Code Breakers summer program includes intensive Orton-Gillingham classes. While in the program, students also participate in guided reading lessons to work on comprehension and to engage in a variety of activities that promote reading fluency. Click here for information about group classes in the summer.
What is Orton-Gillingham?
It is a multisensory structured language program, which is an alternative, structured method for students of all ages who have difficulty with reading, writing, and spelling. This program is appropriate for dyslexic students and for those with memory, reading, and language difficulties.
RITES certified literacy teachers are trained and have expertise in the Orton-Gillingham and/or Wilson method. Recent scientific research has proven this method improves the skills of dyslexic students and of students who experience difficulty with spelling, writing, and reading fluency.
In addition to Orton-Gillingham, these specialists also have experience and training in other multisensory methods such as Wilson®, Telian®, Lindamood-Bell®, and Project Read®. Your student – whether in kindergarten or high school or adult – is given an Orton-Gillingham placement test to determine the starting point. Along the way, we use the student’s current knowledge to inform our lesson planning. Individual Orton-Gillingham tutoring is available all year round.
Lexia Core5

Our families have access to RITES’ license for Lexia Core5, a supplemental literacy software program that is based on Orton-Gillingham. RITES certified teachers train the student/family on how to use the program, so they can access it through the Internet and use it at home between sessions in order to further progress. This program’s peer-reviewed research has proven that Lexia Core5 effectively increases reading proficiency and closes the reading gap.

RITES also partners with RIBIDA, the Rhode Island Branch of the International Dyslexia Association.
