How to Help Your Struggling Students Become Fluent, Confident Readers

Join us for this first teacher workshop focusing on struggling readers in our summer teacher workshop series.

Date: Thursday, July 12th 2:00-3:30 (National Summer Learning Day)
Location: RITES Learning Center 334 East Avenue Pawtucket, Rhode Island

Description

Did you know it takes our students 2-3 times longer to learn to read compared to most other countries because of the complexity of our writing system? In fact, 50% of our language is of foreign origin making it one of the most unpredictable in the world. Yet Finland, the country that consistently outranks us in education, has one of the easiest writing systems. As well, their rate of dyslexia is much lower. This workshop will introduce you to Noah Text™ and teach you how to bring predictability to our irregular writing system by introducing your students to critical word patterns. It will show you how to bring meaningful instruction to children by giving them the key to unlocking further words, thus, giving them independence to become confident, fluent readers.

Presenter

Author Sarah K. BlodgettSarah K. Blodgett is the author of the very imaginative book series The Mystical Years of Franklin Noah Peterson and Zack Early Readers. She is also the creator and founder of Noah Text™, a specialized text designed to assist and teach new and struggling readers, those with dyslexia, and ESL students, how to read with fluency and ease. Thus, her current book series is available in plain text and in Noah Text™. Sarah is a skilled researcher and writer that developed Noah Text™ after working with her own child that struggled with reading. Her journey started in 2003. In 2012, she started formally researching and honing her technique, which led to her research article: The Literacy Crisis: What we can learn from languages throughout the world to solve this problem. Her work has been featured in The Day Newspaper, The Associated Press, Education Talk Radio, CBS 94.9 Radio News Now, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, DifferentBrains.org, Material Psychology, and City Focus Channel 25.
