Summer Study Skills Programs 2010 - Intensive | Individual Tutorials

We offer a study skiils programs to suit the different needs of our summer students. Please note the location of the program you are interested in, as we have different venues which offer different courses.

Our daily two-week course is an intensive program for students who need to hone their study and organizational skills and who may be diagnosed with specific learning differences associated with planning, organization, and transfer of thoughts onto paper.

Our individual tutorial sessions are designed to maintain and build from established skills while fitting into busy summer schedules.

Is your middle schooler disorganized? Does your child struggle with taking notes, studying for tests and expressing thoughts clearly on paper?

This course helps students learn "how to learn" and manage the demands of school. Students learn "active" study strategies to help them retain morei nformation and increase their independence. Students participate in activities that help them uncover their learning styles and understand how best to use their strengths to overcome their difficulties. They learn step-by-step methods to apporach their assignments and meet deadlines, easing homework anxiety.

Additionally, this course provides concrete strategies and techniques to improve writing. Students learn the mechanics of editing, proofreading and polishing written work.

This course approaches math through effective multisensory methods and fun activities. Students focus on developing a stronger foundation in mathematical concepts, improving computational accuracy and speed, and boosting basic skills and confidence. Study skills are integrated into these lessons so that students learn different approaches for attacking their math work.

The reading portion of this course is for students to learn how to extract information from text. The emphasis is on improving reading comprehension and fluency. Children are taught key comprehension strategies, such as making connections, questioning, visualizing, inferring, determining importance, and synthesizing information.

The writing portion of the course provides concrete strategies and techniques to improve written expression. Students learn the mechanics of editing, proofreading and polishing written work. Paragraph formation is taught in a step-by-step manner. Older students also work on different types of essays.

The study skills portion of this course (mainly for 6th - 9th graders) helps students learn “how to learn” and manage the demands of school.
