The reading portion of this course is for students to learn how to extract information from text. The emphasis is on improving reading comprehension and fluency. Children are taught key comprehension strategies, such as making connections, questioning, visualizing, inferring, determining importance, and synthesizing information.

The writing portion of the course provides concrete strategies and techniques to improve written expression. Students learn the mechanics of editing, proofreading and polishing written work. Paragraph formation is taught in a step-by-step manner. Older students also work on different types of essays.

The study skills portion of this course (mainly for 6th - 9th graders) helps students learn “how to learn” and manage the demands of school. Students learn “active” study strategies to help them retain more information and increase their independence. Students participate in activities that help them uncover their learning styles and understand how best to use their strengths to overcome their difficulties. They learn step-by-step methods to approach their assignments and meet deadlines, easing homework anxiety.

Mathematics with Study Skills #SA4

This course approaches math through effective multisensory methods and fun activities. Students focus on developing a stronger foundation in mathematical concepts, improving computational accuracy and speed, and boosting basic skills and confidence. Study skills are integrated into these lessons so that students learn different approaches for attacking their math work.

Authors and Illustrators Camp* #SA5

Children delve into their imaginations and use their creativity to write and illustrate their own books. This course blends essential writing skills with artistic expression.

Authors Workshop* #SA6

This workshop is for the budding author. Participants will explore and begin using important elements of serious writing in their own work. To complement their written work, authors will illustrate their stories and create their own book covers.

Extended Day Options

Early Bird Program #SED1

This is a supervised early drop-off program. Registered campers may attend all mornings, or drop into the program, as needed, for $10 per morning, due on that day.

Afternoon Camp #SED2

For those in the St. Andrew’s morning Educational Programs, this afternoon option provides an extended day of programming, including lunch. Campers are offered a variety of experiences, such as sports, field trips, nature, art, and science, which are tailored to the interests of the individuals.

After 3 Club #SED3

St. Andrew’s also provides an after-hours program for a full day of activities. A drop-in program is also offered, if space is available. Children enjoy free time for play with friends along with a variety of planned activities.
