Rhode Island Tutorial & Educational Services is a local, non-profit organization that offers one-on-one tutoring, small-group instruction, summer programs, assessment services, and advocacy support to the Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts communities. We understand that the “one size fits all” approach to instruction just doesn’t work for all kids. That’s why our teachers develop personalized plans of instruction, based on each student’s learning needs.
Why We are Different
All the components of our program are based on the latest scientific research, which details instructional practices that increase academic skills. For example, our reading program was developed from the latest research-based teaching practices from The National Reading Panel at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, 2000 Teaching Children to Read: An Evidence-Based Assessment of the Scientific Research Literature on Reading and Its Implications for Reading Instruction. For more information see www.nationalreadingpanel.org.
We have specialists on staff to work with students with dyslexia, language disabilities, attention deficit disorder, and executive functioning issues. These teachers have experience and training in Orton-Gillingham, Project Read and other proven, multisensory, systematic approaches.
In addition to working at our Learning Center in Pawtucket, many of our teachers work from local libraries, home offices, or may travel to your house, making it more convenient for families. We work in a wide range of communities, from Barrington to Cumberland, North Kingstown to Cranston, and many more.
Rhode Island Tutorial & Educational Services is a proud member of the IDA (International Dyslexia Association) and CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder).
