Mathematics
Our goal is for students to develop a strong foundation in mathematical concepts and improve basic skills. We employ an array of hands-on methods and activities to fit the needs of each learner. We work with all age ranges in math, from the youngest learning basic computations, to middle school students struggling with Algebra concepts.
Learning Strategies/Organizational and Study Skills
Strategies for all students, as well as for students with Executive Function and ADD. Our goal is to empower learners with strategies and coping skills to use in their classrooms, at home and in every learning environment.
Skills training can include:
• Listening
• Organization
• Time Management
• Note Taking
• Outlining
• Guided Reading
•Test Taking Strategies
Test Preparation
When students understand how to take notes effectively and then how to study those notes, they improve their test-taking abilities. When approaching standardized tests, students who understand the components and instructions of the test do best.
Our preparatory work includes:
• Word origins and attack
• Interpreting instructions
• Time management
• Practice tests and post-test analysis for MCAS, SSAT, and ISEE
Science
and Social Studies
Often, the skills needed for success in these subjects are good study and organization skills, as well as strong reading comprehension abilities and writing skills. Tutoring support is designed to shape students' learning toward methodical, critical thinking and topic-specific instruction, such as:
• Assistance in understanding texts and concepts
• Help developing and organizing research reports and projects
• Creating study guides |
